When God is Silent

Is God ever silent?

In the Old Testament, God spoke through the prophets and men of God whom He placed His spirit upon.

There were periods of silence, most notably in the 400 years before Christ’s birth.

Today, God’s spirit lives within each of us that are His children. We don’t have to wait on someone else to hear God’s words to us. So, is God ever silent in our lives?

I find two scenarios when I feel God is silent.

First, when I am seeking His direction, and I finally hear Him say that I need to do what He has already told me to do before He is going to give me more. Sometimes I know God has asked me to do something specifically that I haven’t completed.

Second, when I feel empty and then realize God is always speaking through His word. When I go back to the basics, I read afresh that He loves me, and He is more than enough for Me in and of Himself.

In both scenarios, my next step is obedience to what He has already shown me in His word (love others, share with others, continue in prayer, reading, and fellowship with like-minded believers). Maybe I assume I already know these things and want something new. But perhaps I need to focus on these things a while longer.

Sometimes I’m waiting on God when, really, He is waiting on me.

You and me both. We are probably all more guilty of this than we realize. Thank you for commenting.
