The Sound of Silence
As we seek to find the treasures in God’s word, one of the greatest is hearing His voice.
Do we take the time to find a quiet place without distraction to seek His face and hear His voice?
“Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face evermore” (Psalm 105:4).
“Then He said, ‘Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.’ And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice” (1 Kings 19:11-12).
Can God speak through a strong wind, an earthquake, or a fire? Yes, God speaks in many ways, yet seeking Him in the silence, we hear His still small voice. The tender voice of our Father.
“Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
In the same way we get away from distractions to spend time with just one person, God desires that we find a quiet place to get alone with Him and have a conversation, which takes two. We speak, and then we listen for His voice.
“Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed” (Mark 1:35).
Do you have a solitary place where it’s just you and God?
The sound of silence, and then the sound of His voice.
