Clean Body — Clean House — Clean Heart

No, this is not a blog about cleaning. At least, not exactly. I’m not going to ask you to make a list or give you a list or provide five points to a better clean. I’m not going to give you tips for routines or organization. But I do want to consider their relationship.

Keeping my body clean is a given. I take a shower every morning. I feel blah and yucky if I don’t. I’m sure others appreciate my shower when they see me, whether they realize it or not.

Keeping a clean house isn’t quite as easy. For one thing, it takes longer, but I have routines for that also. In addition, people see my house and appreciate it being clean if they stop by, whether they realize it or not.

Why do others only notice when things aren’t clean? That’s another blog.

Keeping a clean heart takes more work. I have routines and time set aside for this also, but it’s the easiest non-negotiable to negotiate. No one sees my heart. Except God. And shouldn’t He be the one who matters most? Shouldn’t what He sees be the most important?

People really do appreciate my clean heart also, whether they realize it or not. When my heart is clean, it fills with the fruit of the spirit instead of the fruit of the world. Those things reflect outwardly and on those around me (my family, friends, and co-workers). Jesus also spoke to our internal clean vs our external clean.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness” (Matthew 23:27-28).

So how is your clean routine going? Body, House, and Heart! I’d love to hear your thoughts.
